Guidelines on Installation and Commissioning Precautions Inverter Battery Use Proper insulated tools during installation / service The Lifting equipment of the batteries must withstand to hold the module weight during installation Always follow the O & M Manual safety instructions Avoid installation damages Avoid short circuits Space Consideration Install VRLA battery bank in a clean, cool and dry location VRLA Battery bank installation floor should be reasonably levelled The location having an ambient temperature of 24° C to 30° C will result in optimum VRLA battery life and performance Floor Loading The Amaron Quanta VRLA batteries weight has been given in the Opera & Maiu manual. The total System weight can be calculated from the Opera & Maiu Manual If floor loading exceeds the permissible limits, assemble the VRLA batteries on separate rack or approach ARBL nearest office for suggestionsVentilation No separate ventilation or battery room is required for VRLA batteries Normal room ventilation is sufficientFloor Anchoring Generally the system does not required to be anchored Where seismic conditions are anticipated, floor anchoring, should be provided Such anchoring is the responsibility of the customer/end userTemperature Variations Sources of heat or cooling directed to a portion of the battery bank can cause temperature variations within the system Results in module voltage differences and lead to premature failure of VRLA Battery system Inter connecting cables rating:The following cable ratings are proposed during I&C depending on the load currents

Tools 3.5 Digit Multimeter with RMS value (Ripple) measurement Spanner set Safety In normal use, Amaron Quanta VRLA Batteries will not generate or release hydrogen, oxygen gases, or acid mist and will not have acid leak. They are inherently safer than conventional lead acid batteries However, there is a possibility that under abnormal operating conditions or as a result of damage, misuse and/or abuse, these potentially hazardous conditions (gassing, acid mist, and leaking electrolyte) can occur Thus Amara Raja recommends that the instructions entitled "SAFETY PRECAUTIONS" be reviewed thoroughly and strictly followed when working with Amaron Quanta VRLA Batteries. Please refer the Opera & Maiu Manual for Details
Do's & Don'tsDo's : Keep the VRLA batteries away from heat, sparks, fire etc. Clean the VRLA batteries as and when dust accumulates. Charge the VRLA batteries once in every six months @ 13.8V VPC for 24 hrs. If stored for longer periods Wherever cables are used ensure using proper cable size and crimping of the plug to the cable Torque all terminal bolts to 11 Nm (100 Lb.-inch) Re- torque the terminal bolts once in every six months After discharge, recharge the batteries when power restores Always use calibrated instruments for measurements Dont' s : Do not tamper with the safety valves Do not over-tighten the terminal bolts Do not allow any metal objects to fall across the battery terminals Do not mix VRLA batteries of different capacities or makes Do not mix ordinary conventional/low maintenance VRLA batteries with Amaron Quanta SMF Batteries Do not install physically damaged batteries Do not make any tap connections from the VRLA battery bank Do not boost charge the VRLA batteries for more than 12 Hrs. in regular operation / usage Do not allow any direct sunlight to fall on batteries

Unequal voltages among the batteries (i) Terminal tightness Loose in few modules Check the terminals tightness for all the VRLA batteries. Tighten to 11 N-m
  (ii) External heat sources directed on few batteries External heat sources direct
on few VRLA batteries
Redirect the heat sources from the VRLA batteries / reposition the VRLA batteries.
  (iii) Tap Connections Tap Connections Remove the tap connections
  (iv) Boost charge No boost charge once in three months Boost charge at 13.8 VPM for 24 hrs

Abnormal battery heating (i) Ventilation Poor Provide adequate ventilation
  (ii) Ripple Very high ripple in the charger out put. Rectify the charger
  (iii) Charger Setting Continuous over charge Replace the VRLA battery
